The DC Comics relaunch continues this week with DC power women in new books and new arcs.
Dinah Lance hits the road and rocks out in Black Canary #1. The brand new series by writer Brenden Fletcher (Batgirl, Gotham Academy) and artist Annie Wu (Hawkeye) sees the Bird of Prey become a rock and roll runaway with a band on the the run and conspiracy on her trail.
Earlier this year at Emerald City Comicon, Fletcher said he will re-establish Dinah as one of the most dangerous martial artists in DC Comics calling this new book a “kung fu rock and roll road trip” while she’s on tour with a band and “it all ties back to Dinah’s origins.”
Fletcher added we’ll “never see Dinah in fresh fishnets again!” pointing to the torn fishnets and band aids in Wu’s cover art.
Here’s the official description for this week’s number one:
“After years as a soldier and vigilante, the LAST place Dinah saw herself is on stage…but she’s quickly learning she’d die to protect the gang of misfits she’s fallen into. And she just might have to – for some reason, the newly rechristened band Black Canary seems to be a magnet for trouble…and Dinah’s not gonna believe it when she finds out the reason why! Martial arts, super-spies, and rock ‘n’ roll combine.”
You may have spotted this concert poster for Dinah and her band in Batman #41 last week and you might grab one of your own at participating comic book shops with Black Canary #1 this Wednesday.
