Big changes for Barbara Gordon as fans wait to celebrate her 50 years as Batgirl in early 2016.

Current creative team (Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher, Babs Tarr) brought new energy and acclaim with the “Batgirl of Burnside” and it looks the whole Bat-verse is building up to a major shift.

Co-writer Brenden Fletcher delivered a vague but tempting tease about Batgirl’s near future at Dragon-Con this past weekend.

“In 2016, it is going to be Barbara Gordon’s 50th anniversary as Batgirl. We’re all pushing for really incredible things to happen. One thing I can let you know is early in 2016 there will be an amazing status quo change — this sounds like such a cliche! But this is going to change the way the Bat-World works.” Fletcher told Hitfix.

What’s the big change:

As revealed in this summer’s Batgirl Annual, there’s a wedding in the Batgirl’s future. Barbara’s former roommate Alyssia Yeoh is engaged.

Fans should note Cassandra Cain (a one-time Batgirl before The New 52) returns in Batman and Robin Eternal.

Barbara Gordon became Batgirl in Detective Comics #359 in 1967.
