Marvel makes it official:
Have they conjured the perfect actor to play the Master of the Mystic Arts?
Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) will play the title hero in Doctor Strange.
“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”
Scott Derrickson is directing.
Stephen Strange was name dropped by Hydra operatives in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The actor is likely to have signed to a long-term contract with multiple films including Avengers 3.
Dr. Strange was a brilliant, arrogant surgeon whose career was cut short. While seeking a cure and new purpose in Tibet he encountered The Ancient One and started a new path which made him the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth.
Doctor Strange arrives November 4, 2016.
