Leave it to Ben Grimm ( as written by Brian Michael Bendis) to ask one of the biggest, possibly more daunting question in the Marvel universe no one else ever thought to ask!
The Infinity Gauntlet is cosmic weapon of supreme power once the Infinity Gems have been mounted. This ancient artifact is the inspiration for a one of the greatest epics in Marvel Comics history (by writer Jim Starlin) and has an ominous presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One, Two and Three leading up the Avengers: The Infinity War I, II.
Guardians of the Galaxy #1 arrived in comic shops this week with a new team including Ben Grimm, formerly of Fantastic Four, which came to an end earlier this year. Bendis immediately captured what fans love about the Thing especially his humor. It was one line for comic relief that stuck in my head. Maybe it wasn’t just comic relief but a big hint of things to come in the All-New, All-Different Marvel Now.
Before I continue here’s a SPOILER ALERT!
If you didn’t read the new Guardians of the Galaxy #1 stop reading now.
Seriously.
Here it comes.
As the Guardians were talking about the Infinity Gauntlet, Grimm asked the question, “You guys ever wonder where the rest of it is? Where’s the Infinity Suit of Armor and Who’s Wearin’ It?”
Excellent question!
In Thor, we saw the Gauntlet in Odin’s vault. We’ve seen Infinity Gems in Guardians of the Galaxy. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thanos is wearing the Gauntlet and vows to find the Gems himself. The hunt for the stones will continue building up to Avengers: The Infinity War I, II.
The Gauntlet is a metal glove giving the wielder ultimate power once the gems are mounted. Bendis and Grimm raise a frightening question.
Is there an Infinity suit of armor in which more cosmic gems can be mounted and what kind of power could it grant the wearer of an entire Infinity uniform?
Is this just one-liner from Grimm or is Bendis planting a seed for a major story to come? Remember when Echo killed Elektra who turned out to be a Skrull? That was a long running mystery with a slow burn that years later blew up into the Secret Invasion epic.
Or have I been reading comic books too long?
