Ben Affleck will play Batman opposite Henry Cavill as Superman in the Man of Steel sequel. The film is still untitled but Warner Brothers announced it will be released July 17, 2015.
It’s Batman Beyond our control now fanboys and fangirls so let’s focus on the why this is a good choice for the next Dark Knight:
The Town: Affleck wrote, directed and starred in one of the best crime dramas in recent years. You could think of Affleck’s Doug McRay as a Bruce Wayne without the billions. The dark conflicted criminal was a physical menace which you need to take on Cavill’s Kal-El, street smart, ruthless and charming. The next Batman is going to be more of a brawler with brains. (Kryptonite laced boxing gloves?!)
Different From That Other Vigilante: Affleck is not the same guy who played Daredevil. It’s been a long hard road from Gigli. Affleck makes smart decisions, upped his game, become a better actor and director. He’s not going to mess up now.
The “ARGO” Effect: Affleck directed last year’s Oscar-winning Best Picture and should have won Best Director. I wish he was co-directing with Zach Snyder. Having Ben Affleck in this movie makes everyone up their game from story, script to direction and fellow actors.
“Justice League” Gets Direction: Affleck was at one point rumored to be a front-runner to direct a film based on DC’s greatest super team. If Affleck works as Batman he could take the reigns of a Justice League movie after the Superman/Batman film. This actor’s director could be a huge asset in assembling top talent to play DC icons at the top of their game giving us the League of our dreams.
The Clooney Factor: The man hangs and works with George Clooney. The coolest, smartest guy in Hollywood is available for advice. I bet he might say, “if nipples are mentioned…run!”
