BATMAN’S Proposal Answer & Superhero Wedding Warnings

The course of true love never runs smooth…especially in comic books!

The Dark Knight proposed to Catwoman in BATMAN #24. We know Selina’s answer to Bruce’s proposal in this week’s BATMAN #32.

We don’t give away her answer but thought it was time for Bruce to think about the fate of other comic book marriages. Did she or didn’t she say yes. Maybe Bruce dodged a bullet or is he headed for heartbreak?

Here are the most shocking and successful superhero marriages:

Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne

Ant-Man and Wasp were the founding Avengers. They married. She changed costumes…a lot. He changed identities and code-names and went crazy. When Hank took on the name Yellowjacket, he descended into madness and became abusive of Janet. Captain American kicked Hank off the team. Janet divorced him. The original Avenging sweethearts suffered love, lost, life, death, rebirth and maybe should have never walked down the aisle.

Storm and Black Panther

She was an X-Men. He was an Avenger. They met as teenagers (via a retcon) and became Marvel’s ultimate power couple until the Avengers vs X-Men war torn their fractured relationship apart. Duty to their rival teams and nations ultimately led to a royal divorce.

Green Arrow and Black Canary

Oliver Queen and Dinah Lance – partners in love and fighting crime tied the know in a one-shot. He’s a rebel archer. She’s a disciplined fighter following her mother’s legacy. Ollie’s war with Prometheus led to Dinah to leave him and leading to divorce. Thanks to reboots, the two are in love and war against evil again in his solo series.

Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman

Reed Richards and Susan Storm Richards may be the most successful super relationship in comics but they’ve been tested time and time again. From fighting madmen like Doctor Doom to alien empires – the first couple have survived invasions, deaths, rebirths, imposters and galactic wars. It was a Civil War that nearly ripped them apart they fell on opposition sides of the superhero registration act.  Reed and Sue raised two kids, provided a school for other gifted children, refereed Johnny and Ben’s fighting and remain Marvel’s First Family and a super couple you cheer for.

Superman and Lois Lane

The last son of Krypton and the super reporter – not even retcon and reboots could keep them apart. Lois and Clark may be the most symbol of love conquers all. She cried as the Man of Steel died in her arms at the hands of Doomsday. The marriage was erased by The New 52 reboot. In this era Superman never married Lois and fell in love with Wonder Woman. Thanks to the Convergence event, a married Superman and Lois returned as the prime Clark and Lois fans have loved with DC Rebirth. Clark and Lois are raising a super son named Jon. I think it’s amazing in the 21st century modern age, it’s the old-fashioned, married Lois and Clark that fans really wanted.

Maybe Bruce and Selina will choose Clark and Lois as their Best Man and Maid of Honor? The Dark Knight and his former femme fatale enemy should learn lessons in relationship building from the Metropolis super couple.
