The Dark Knight vs. The Man of Steel.

The DC Movie Universe expands in a big way this Friday in Batman v Superman: Dawn on Justice from Warner Brothers.

In Zack Snyder’s new film, Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent meet for the first time on the big screen. In the comics, the two heroes have been strong allies and friends but they’ve had huge falling outs leading to some of the most powerhouse battles in comics history.

Here are three of our picks for biggest Batman vs. Superman fights from comic books:

Batman: Endgame

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s epic Batman/Joker clash begins with the Clown Prince of Crime unleashing the Dark Knight’s friends against him.

The Justice League has been poisoned by Joker’s toxin. The Dark Knight takes down Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash then faces a possessed Man of Steel. In previous fights, Bruce could relay on Clark’s ultimate “goodness” deep down to turn the tide but not with the Joker’s poison in him this time.

Batman spits a bit of Kryptonite into the sinister Superman’s eye that brings the Man of Steel down.

Batman: Hush

A femme fatale orchestrates this Superman/Batman fight by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee but it’s a different woman that gives one of them the edge to win the fight.

The Man of Steel, under the influence of Poison Ivy, attacks Batman and Catwoman. The Dark Knight’s quick thinking turns the impossible battle around. Batman’s uses Clark’s love for Lois Lane to shake his Ivy’s toxic takeover.

The Dark Knight Returns

The tale that is one of the most influential comics stories in history. The climatic showdown between an older Dark Knight and ethically challenged Superman is the finale of Frank Miller’s epic set in the future. Superman has became a pawn of a government that outlaws costumed heroes and is ordered to take down Batman who has come out of retirement.

Batman takes on Man of Steel with a pair of powerhouse gauntlets, Kryptonite and a Batmobile that could be dubbed the Bat-tank. The armor Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne in the film is very similar to what Batman wears in this classic confrontation.

The story of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman in this world by Miller continues in The Dark Knight Strikes Again and playing in Dark Knight III: The Master Race now from DC Comics.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens March 25th.
