That’s it.

That’s how it ends?

Batman, Incorporated #13 was the grand finale of Grant Morrison’s inventive seven-year run on the Dark Knight.

After a war between Bruce’s Batman, Incorporated army and Talia Al Ghul’s Leviathan that claimed the life of their child it all came down to a final showdown in the Batcave.

It was perfect final chapter until…well I don’t want to give it away but halfway into the issue I really yelled “what the?”

If you wanted your pound of flesh by Batman pounding flesh for revenge then the previous issue is the one for you.

As for this conclusion…

Tightly plotted.

A relentless Talia.

Stunning Chris Burnham art.

An incredible exchange that defined Jim Gordon and Bruce Wayne.

What was supposed to be a satisfying showdown was a final statement on Batman and the comic art form.

Surprising. Not satisfying.

But maybe that was Morrison’s point. Batman will never be satisfied in his pursuit of justice. Bruce never gets revenge or a happy ending. What does that say about the readers and our “love” for Batman?
