Shang Chi takes the spotlight in this week’s Avengers #11. After cosmic clashes and alien outbreaks Jonathan Hickman sends the team to Hong Kong for a new adventure called Wake the Dragon.
While the Master of Kung Fu fights an ancient rival, Cannonball and Sunspot gamble with AIM agents and Black Widow, Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman take on spies in a casino showdown in Wake the Dragon.
Artist Mike Deodato is joining writer Jonathan Hickman for the first time on Avengers and New Avengers as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes march towards the big Infinity event.
Deodato explains how collaborating with Hickman will be different from Brian Michael Bendis with Marvel.com.
“Jonathan’s writing is mysterious, broader, strange; like Alan Moore’s take on Marvelman. I did change my approach for a lighter and more detailed one. I wanted to raise my game because of the other artists on the book. Adam Kubert, Jerome Opena and Dustin Weaver are tremendous talents and I didn’t want to have my ass kicked that hard.”
Hickman has assembled new members for a larger roster of Avengers. Deodato reveals his favorite;
“I love Thor, and it’s been great to have the chance to draw him more in these issues. Also, I drew the Savage Land and the New Men for the first time, and it was so fun. [Marvel] really should think about doing a New Men ongoing series.”
