Are Joss Whedon and Marvel adding a legendary villain to Avengers: Age of Ultron?
Thomas Kretschmann (Wanted, Downfall, Stalingrad, King Kong, Dracula) has joined the sequel according to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety Both reports say he’s playing Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker.
In comics Von Strucker is an infamous enemy of Captain America and Nick Fury. The Nazi officer lived to the modern day to become leader of Hydra (Red Skull’s secret army from Captain America movie.) The Baron has three children: Andreas and Andrea are twins (and mutants) and Werner is their half-brother.
If this turns out to be true – watch for clues in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) uncovers a conspiracy within S.H.I.E.L.D. The stage could be set for a modern day HYDRA in Marvel movies and potentially Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
James Spader is playing Ultron in the sequel coming May, 2015.
