How does Jonathan Hickman follow-up his incredible first year writing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes?

New threats. New mysteries. A “Ghost from Christmas” future themed encounter for Tony Stark!

Hickman’s Avengers dominated our Best of 2013 lists (writer, book, event, team leader, team) as he transformed Earth into an Avengers World and the Avengers into the Universe’s Mightiest Heroes against the threats of the Builders and Thanos in the Infinity event.

Avengers #24.Now (Rogue Planet #1) kicks off an exciting next arc with new elements and some previous plot threads.  After an ominous encounter in an iconic Marvel address in the year 3030, the issue goes to the heroes enjoying some much-needed down time written with style and humor as the Avengers bond over barbecuing on the Avengers Tower rooftop. There’s no rest for Captain America and Iron Man as they decide who to edit and who to recruit for the team’s long-term goals.

A visitor from the future warns the heroes of a rogue planet heading for Earth. The team’s brains and brawn work to save us but have the heroes created a bigger threat (I couldn’t have but think did the Avengers just start the incursions that the Illuminati have been fighting in New Avengers all year?)

The fast-moving issue ends with Tony in a sci-fi Charles Dickens moment as the ghost from the future gives him a dire warning and we’re teased with all action-packed, brain-twisting story possibilities to come!
