Arrow season three begins tonight with The Calm.

Fans are eager for answers after the climatic season two finale battle between Oliver Queen and his allies versus Deathstroke and the League of Assassins.

Producers say this season’s theme is identity. Can Oliver have a separate life as Oliver Queen?

“It’s his season-long journey,” Producer Marc Guggenheim told DCComics.com. “Is there an Oliver Queen anymore? And if there can be, what does that look like? It’s a real conundrum for him.”

Queen’s ally assumes a famous identity this season. Fans will see Colton Haynes as Roy Harper suited up in full hero mode as Arsenal.

Queen will face at least two rivals:

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) joins the cast as high-tech genius Ray Palmer who makes a play for Queen’s company and Felicity Smoak.

He’s going to end up the new head of Queen Consolidated,” said Guggenheim. “We sort of know from past seasons that people in charge of Queen Consolidated aren’t always the best people, so I think Ray represents either an interesting departure or an interesting twist. One of the things we wanted to do was reintroduce the concept of mystery to the show. We sort of had that in Season 1 with the glyph and the Undertaking. What was the list about and the notebook? What Ray is up to with his whole campaign and what he plans to do with the company will be one of those mysteries.

Palmer is aka The Atom, the DC hero who can shrink to microscopic size.

Later this season the legendary Ra’s Al Ghul joins the series. Matt Nable will bring the infamous Batman villain to evil life.

Arrow premieres tonight on The CW.
