ANGELA BASSETT Joins BLACK PANTHER

A powerhouse actress joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Queen of Wakanda.

Marvel announced Academy Award-nominated actress Angela Bassett has joined the cast of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther.

Bassett is a star of American Horror Story and veteran of sci-fi films Strange Days, Contact and played Dr. Amanda Waller in Green Lantern. Bassett was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with It.

Bassett was announced as playing Ramonda, mother of T’Challa, aka Black Panther. In the comics, Ramonda is T’Challa’s surrogate mother. The Prince’s mother died in childbirth and his father remarried.

Chadwick Boseman is playing the title hero in a film directed by Ryan Coogler. The cast includes Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira.

Black Panther opens February 16, 2018.
