Villains unite against Spidey in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The sequel features Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Rhino (Paul Giamatti) with Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborne and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborne. No word on if one or more of the Osborne will become the Green Goblin.
Now comes word another Spidey villain will appear in the film. Look at this tweet from director Marc Webb that sure appears to reveal B.J. Novak (The Office) is playing “A Smythe.”
In the comic books – Alistair Smythe is a robotic genius who once was dependent on a wheelchair. Smythe is the inventor of Spider Slayer robots but later use the technology on himself to become the ultimate Spider Slayer.
No official word but it’s likely Smythe will be one of the scientist working for Oscorp. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is laying the groundwork for a larger cinematic Spidey universe for Sony. With Sinister Six and Venom spinoff movies on the way – we could see Peter Parker or Venom hunted by an army of Spider Slayers and Smythe in a third sequel.
