The all-female X-Men book becomes part of the big 50th Anniversary crossover epic. X-Men #5 and #6 are key chapters in X-Men: Battle of the Atom.

Writer Brian Wood tells Marvel.com Rachel Grey will have an important interaction with the young Jean Grey and (while not spoiling last week’s chapter two) one of the Future X-Men:

“The story dictated it, really; there are crucial points in the story where it’s really a telepath’s time to shine, and there are enemies with special resonance to Rachel, so she steps up. Trying not to give too much away!”

Team tension is high between Rachel and Storm after Ororo was willing to kill a former teammate to stop the evil Arkea in the first arc.

X-Men: Battle of the Atom chapter three continues in X-Men #5.

Here are more images from inside the issue by David Lopez as the X-Men confront runaways Young Jean Grey and Scott Summers plus a variant cover by Terry Dodson with Rachel and Storm about to have a serious throwdown.
