You could call Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season Two a mother of a mashup of monsters, myths and family matters. Multiple story arcs came together in an intense, action and twist packed finale that sets the stage for even bigger battles on the show in on the big screen.

The fates of Skye and Raina.

The truth about Skye’s mother. Let’s hope the movie Inhhumans are a little nicer!

Why Mockingbird and Lance Hunter are not getting their own spinoff.

Oh yeah and payback for Ward!

And that cliffhanger?!

The Inhumans declared war on S.H.I.E.L.D. in a satisfying payoff to a much improved second season with more emotional stakes but we’re left with burning questions.

SPOILER WARNING!

If you have not seen this week’s Agents of SHIELD episode yet stop reading now.

Seriously.

OK.

Here it comes.

In last week’s episode, Skye’s long lost mother revealed her true agenda. Killing Gonzales was just the beginning as this Inhuman “Mommie Dearest” did some serious damage to S.H.I.E.L.D. and plotted to unleash Terrigenesis across the globe.

Raina may have transformed into a thorn covered, big eyed precog but Skye’s mother proved to be the real monster – a Frankenstein created by Hydra. Speaking of monsters, the “will he or won’t he” specter surrounding Cal (Kyle MacLachlan) finally became real. Part of Jiaying’s endgame was turning over Cal so he could finally turn into Mister Hyde. While we never heard the villainous code-name we did see Cal become the monster made by his chemicals and Jiaying’s mindgames.

Jiaying and her rogue Inhumans including Gordon the eyeless teleporther seized the S.H.I.E.L.D. carrier HQ armed with diviners ready to unleash terrigenesis. It came down to a final showdown between estranged father, mother and daughter with closure, death and fallout for each one.

ABC is not moving forward with a potential spinoff starring Adrienne Palicki and Nick Blood. They’re just too good to let go. Bobbi Morse emerged as the show’s MVP as season but this final episode was a showcase for Palicki as Morse was at the “mercy” of Grant War and Agent 33. From taking a beating to delivering some serious payback to a painful sacrifice for her ex – I felt Bobbi’s pain.

Just like Black Bolt did in comics Jiaying was ready to unleash terrigenesis across the globe to unleash new Inhumans but unlike the comics, exposure kills “normal” humans without the Kree DNA.

Here are our top burning questions!

Coulson was exposed to a broken terrigen crystal and it appeared he was starting to go into the rocky cocoon. Mack cut off Coulson’s hand before it could spread – like the zombie virus in The Walking Dead but isn’t it possible Coulson could survive and became an Inhuman since he’s had an infusion of Kree blood?

How long will it take to see the effects of Terrigenesis? Just when you thought we were safe from Jiaying’s plan, the plane filled with crystals crashed into the ocean and became part of the ecosystem. Now the crystals are in the fish and possibly in the fish oil in your local supplement section! Could different amounts of exposure over time have different impacts on humans and potential Inhumans? Season Three could see Coulson and his new enhanced team tracking, fighting and recruiting a new generation of Inhumans.

Where are Black Bolt and Medusa? Did they know about Jiaying? As we’ve seen in comics there are many tribes of Inhumans. The Royal Family (Black Bolt, Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Triton, Crystal) are the most iconic Inhumans from comics and likely to be stars of the upcoming movie. The Kingdom of Attilan could be off-planet and the outbreak of Inhumans on Earth could be what draws them off their hidden city on the moon and into the conflict in a future movie.

Grant Ward, Hydra leader? Ward lost Agent 33 but may have found his own evil family. After the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron Hydra is severed and no heads appear to be growing back so it looks like Ward is seizing control. Could this mean Brett Dalton will have a greater role in the great Marvel Universe as head of Hydra?

The biggest question follow the big shocker! Just when you thought the team was safe and Fitz and Simmons finally start sharing their feelings…Fitz unlocks the crate holding the Kree stone. The stone turns organic and liquid and swallows up Simmons. Elizabeth Henstridge is back next season so will Simmons turn into something Inhuman?

Secret Warriors? It sure looked like May, Morse and Blood may be leaving the team. Coulson’s plan is to organize a team of enhanced agents. With Daisy/Skye on board is this a nod to Secret Warriors – Nick Fury’s “caterpillar” project in which he recruited sons and daughters of super heroes and villains who inherited abilities from their parents. Who else from the comic book team could join next season?
