AGENTS OF SHIELD Season Four Cliffhanger Questions

A year of Ghost Rider, LMDs turned and a Framework of a dark mirror world with Hydra in control and Grant Ward resurrected. All the Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD season four story lines came together for an action and emotion packed finale. And that out of this world cliffhanger!

Supernatural and super scary technology threats weaved the season’s three arcs into the season ender World’s End. But what about that ending? What does it mean for Team Coulson and the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider from the first arc came roaring back for vengeance after Aida, the Life Model Decoy made Inhuman flesh by the Darkhold. Who survived the destruction of The Framework?

Before we continue with our big moments and burning question for what’s next here’s a SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not seen the Agents of SHIELD Season Four finale yet stop reading now.

Seriously.

OK.

Here it comes.

SHIELD is enemy #1 again after LMD’s (including a Daisy double) attack world leaders debating the fate of the spy agency and General Talbot is shot in the head.

Yo-Yo is able to rescue Mack from the dying Framework in one of the series most emotional moments as Mack can’t say goodbye to Hope, his daughter in the artificial world. Radcliffe can’t savor a final moment or finish his speech before he is wiped away…never to be seen again?

Robbie and Coulson ignited the power of the Ghost Rider to destroy Aida. Robbie then takes off with the Darkhold but is this the last ride of the Ghost Rider.

Team Coulson is having a victory meal in a diner when they are surrounded by men in black (suits and shades) and take into custody.

Coulson wakes up later in prison cell…in space. Coulson’s cell has a window with a view of an asteroid belt so he appears to be far from Earth or is he? Coulson’s seen a lot so he’s good at keeping his cool but he seems not very surprised to be in space as he leaves the cell.

How long has time passed since the team’s capture? Does Coulson know where he is and who has him?

The unusual suspects:

#1  S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient Worlds Observation and Response Department) is a counter-agency to S.H.I.E.L.D. in comics it would set the stage for some intriguing story opportunities. S.W.O.R.D. was created by (Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron director) Joss Whedon and artist John Cassaday during their Astonishing X-Men run. Special Agent Abigail Brand was the leader of S.W.O.R.D. operating out of a space station orbiting Earth known as The Peak.

Because S.W.O.R.D. was born in the pages of the X-Men, you’d think that might be controlled by Fox (holder of the X-Men film rights) but Marvel and Fox are working together now (Legion on FX, The Gifted this Fall on Fox) so sharing SWORD could be part of the agreement. Coulson and Brand would be great characters interacting together.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in space with S.W.O.R.D. next season could also fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we count down to Avengers: Infinity War. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will be joined by the Guardians of the Galaxy in the showdown with Thanos, who is always back by an army of alien warriors for his invasions.

#2 The Royal Family of the Inhumans.

Team Coulson and Inhumans have been intertwined on the series from the start but could Phil come face to face with the Royal Family? Attilan is a secret realm with a hidden tribe of Inhumans ruled by a King, Black Bolt.

At the ABC Up Front Presentation, the network revealed Marvel’s The Inhumans will air Fridays at 9pm. The first look for the audience showed action in Attilan on the moon and Earth, featured the treachery of Maximus, who appears to stage a coup against his brother, Black Bolt. The preview showed Medusa and Crystal apparently captured, Karnak and Gorgon in fights. But the big reveal was Lockjaw (aka the Time Dog) teleporting Black Bolt to Earth.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return in early 2018 but no official word on the time slot. Could Team Coulson be special guests and guest stars on the moon with the Inhumans?
