Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is back with a vengeance with big changes for Team Coulson in the aftermath of last season’s finale/jump into the future and events of Captain America: Civil War II.
Ghost Rider, a new S.H.I.E.L.D. director, and the birth of a Life Model Decoy are among the new characters while fan-favorites are in new roles.
Daisy/Quake is an outlaw, Coulson is demoted, Simmons promoted and May is running kick ass 101. There’s a demonic vigilante on the streets and a powerful force that turn friend into foe.
With passage of the Sokovia Accords, S.H.I.E.L.D. is once again under government oversight with a new Director (Jason O’Mara) and new protocols. Coulson and Mack are tracking the “enhanced” aka Inhumans and covertly tracking Daisy who is now an outlaw with her own agenda. Quake’s search for a network of bad guys sets her on a collision course with Ghost Rider. Gabriel Luna is Robbie Reyes (the third man to be the fiery skulled vigilante) stalking criminals in his demonic Dodge street racer.
The arrival of the Spirit of Vengeance fires up the energy of the show and hints at how this season’s stories could tie into the big screen debut of Doctor Strange as Marvel pulls back the cloak on its supernatural universe.
Before we continue here’s a SPOILER ALERT!
If you have not watched this week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stop reading now.
Seriously.
OK.
Here it comes.
Daisy (Chloe Bennet) is branded as a vigilante but Coulson hopes he can get his protogee back into the fold. May is training new agents but gives Coulson a tip that Daisy is in Los Angeles. Quake is working to stop the Watchdogs (the anti-Inhuman hate group) and their recruits but she discovers a fiery skulled serial killer known as Ghost Rider who executes those he judges as evil. The Spirit of Vengeance does not deliver his fatal judgement after a battle with Quake.
May is ordered to lead her strike team to bring Coulson in after learning of his rogue mission to find Daisy.
The gang Daisy was hunting opens a mysterious box that opened a ghost causing them to go crazy.
FitzSimmons headed for a split? The beloved scientists may be headed for heartbreak. Simmons rises to a key new role with the Director. Fitz is secretly working with Radcliffe (John Hannah) the rogue scientist now pardoned on an advanced Life Model Decoy named AIDA. Didn’t they see Age of Ultron?
The season begins with these big burning questions:
What’s in the box?
Is there a rival Spirit of Vengeance?
Could the box contain Eli Morrow? In comics Reyes is empowered by the spirt of his uncle who was a Satanic serial killer.
Is May the new Ward since she seemed to be affected by the box spirit?
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.airs Tuesdays at 10 pm on ABC.
