On the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season three finale, Phil Coulson was out in the field and out as director.

Who’s the boss?

Marvel announced Jason O’Mara (Complications, The Good Wife, Terra Nova) as the new Director playing a character “whose roots go back to the 1940’s.”

O’Mara has portrayed Bruce Wayne/Batman in several animated films including Justice League Dark, Batman: Bad Blood and Batman vs Robin.

“Bringing Jason into the mix as the New Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the Agency,” said Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb. “Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.”

No word on the name of O’Mara’s character.

Phil Coulson is still a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. as seen in the finale epilogue set 6 months after. Daisy/Quake appears to be an outlaw and no longer with S.H.I.E.L.D.

Gabriel Luna is joining the cast as Robbie Reyes, the third man in Marvel Comics canon known as Ghost Rider.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns September 20th at 10 pm on ABC.
