Watching the latest Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I started thinking of Brett Dalton as a famous Avenger.

In the latest episode an Asgardian artifact makes Agent Grant Ward relive a long buried painful memory and unleashed surges of raw power and adrenaline fueled punches.

Imagine Dalton as Wonder Man?

Just look at this cover to New Avengers Annual #1.

Wonder Man was created by Stan Lee, Don Heck and Jack Kirby in Avengers #9. Simon Williams is the son of a rich industrialist who blamed Tony Stark for his family’s downfall. Williams turned to the Masters of Evil, was transformed into a ionic powered super being by radiation treatments to infiltrate the Avengers. Simon became a happy go lucky good guy who worked as a stunt man and actor for a time.

Wonder Man’s long-suffering love for the Scarlet Witch (set to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron) has been his downfall and what makes him a darker, more compelling hero. Simon is currently a member of the Uncanny Avengers by Rick Remender.

Back to this week’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this was the best episode yet for Brett Dalton as Ward. After reliving a childhood trauma we have a window into what drives him. The very best handsome men of action are better with vulnerability and damage. By showing Ward’s he’s a better character much like Simon.
