When we last saw Phil Coulson he appeared to be looking out across space from a mysterious prison cell.
MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD Season Five will pick up with Earth’s heroic operative in outer space.
This new art sure looks like it. Marvel revealed via EW the first poster for the upcoming season with the logo on what looks like the space prison (?) holding Coulson.
But where is he? Who has him?
Let’s break down the unusual suspects and mysterious locations:
S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department) is like SHIELD but they watch over Earth from an orbiting space station. Abigail Brand is the director or of this organization of humans, aliens and hybrids watching for alien threats.
Brand and S.W.O.R.D. are co-creations of THE AVENGERS, THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON director Joss Whedon during his comic book run on ASTONISHING X-MEN with artist John Cassaday.
Coulson and Brand could be dynamic rivals/allies with your favorite SHIELD agents mixing it up on missions with other aliens like Syndren, a Drenx with telepathic and precognitive powers.
ATTILAN the secret city of the Inhuman Royal Family has existed on Earth and on the “blue area” of the moon. MARVEL’S INHUMANS kicks off this week ABC in the time slot AGENTS OF SHIELD will follow. Coulson could be a captive of Inhuman villain Maximus and tying both series together.
HALA is the home world of the Kree Empire, the aliens who created the Inhumans. The Kree renegade Ronan the Accuser was the villain of Guardians of the Galaxy. Could Coulson and Daisy be captives of the alien empire with so many connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
THE BLACK ORDER isn’t a place but a sinister pack of aliens who serve Thanos. The Black Order aka The Cull Obsidian are Corvus Glaive, Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight, Black Dward and Supergiant. Thanos and this evil squad will menace on the big screen AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.
MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD Season Five in space could be the connection between INHUMANS and the big finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Nick Blood will be back as Lance Hunter. Season Five starts this winter but there’s no official start date as Coulson and his team move to Fridays in 2018.
