Did the origin of Ghost Rider leave you with burning questions?
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The Good Samaritan featured two revealing flashbacks.
We now know the origin of Robbie Reyes’ transformation into the Spirit of Vengeance.
We now know what really happened in the Momentum Labs with the Darkhold that created this season’s ghostly villains.
But it only fired up speculation about what’s next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Fans were also treated to name drops of other infamous Marvel icons and what happens when S.H.I.E.L.D. Directors debate Star Wars?
Before we break down The Good Samaritan and what it could mean here’s a SPOILER ALERT!
If you have not seen this week’s episode yet stop reading now.
Seriously.
OK.
Here it comes.
Gabriel (Robbie Reyes) revealed his identity to his little brother. The two were attacked on the way to a street race by a rival gang who were really out to get their Uncle Eli Morrow. As Gabriel was being thrown from the car crash he made a call for help to save his brother’s life. Someone sinister answers his call and made him a demonic offer.
Who was the “man” on the motorcycle who transformed Gabriel into the Spirit of Vengeance?
Was it Zarathos – the demon from the original Ghost Rider origin comics story?
Was is Mephisto – the “Devil” from Marvel Comics canon?
Was it Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch – the first two Ghost Riders who blazed a trail of fiery vengeance on a motorcycle?
Was it a demonic entity like Dormannu or someone we’ll see in the upcoming Doctor Strange movie?
Was it actually Chthon or an emissary of the “Elder God” as he’s called in the comics? (Chthon is the author of the Darkhold.)
In another flashback we learned Eli Morrow is the one who turned Lucy into a ghostly monster and in the episode cliffhanger may have finally succeeded in his bizarre experiments with the Darkhold and the creation of matter using Darkforce. While Eli’s connection to Robbie’s fiery origin varies from the comic – this flashback did reveal Eli’s sinister side. Will be become a Satanic serial killer like comics canon but now with a greater power?
What did Eli create? Is this Darkforce the next big thing in the Marvel Universe with more supernatural heroes and villains on way?
Roxxon. The Agents and spookly scientists referenced facilities owned by Roxxon in the episode. The Roxxon Oil Company or Roxxon Corporation is a ruthless company in Marvel Comics that has appeared in a multiple comic book epics and were referenced in Iron Man III. Is this a way to give the evil organization and its ruthless bosses a more significant role in Marvel movies and television? I could definitely see a Roxxon backed super team of villains thrown at Team Coulson in a future season.
Coulson vs Mace. Clark Gregg and Jason O’Mara have been fun to watch in a battle of the sharp one-liners and deadpan deliveries. The former and current Directors clash cooly as Mace invades Coulson’s plane in search for Quake and Ghost Rider. The two share a debate that even made his lifelong Star Wars ponder. Is Admiral Ackbar really a better hero than Han Solo? Is Ackbar the Coulson of the Rebel Alliance?
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns November 29th.
