A big week for two of Marvel’s most beloved female heroes and the two women behind those characters.
Writers Tara Butters and Michelle Fazekas celebrate the start of the second season of Agent Carter and the launch of a new volume of Captain Marvel. They recruited the women behind the acclaimed Agent Carter television series.
Butters and Fazekas take over the new adventures of Carol Danvers after the departure of Kelly Sue DeConnick who transformation Ms. Marvel to Captain Marvel, inspiring the Carol Corps fan movement.
Captain Marvel will be leading the first line of defense for Earth against alien threats at her own space station when the series picks eight months after Secret Wars.
Editor Sana Amanat says S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient World Observation and Response Department) leads to Danvers’ new role. This organization was created by Joss Whedon during his Astonishing X-Men run.
“One of the first things that happens when she comes to the station is they’re going to come upon a ghost ship, what seems to be a ghost ship,” told Fazekas Fast Company. “No crew, or a dead crew. What we’ll find out over the first six issues is that it’s not a coincidence that it’s headed towards Earth and Captain Marvel.”
The new Captain Marvel #1 arrives Wednesday. Kris Anka is the artist.
