2017 Comic & SciFi Movies to Watch

Goodbye 2016. Hello 2017 movies packed with comic book heroes, villains, Gods and monsters.

In order of arrival here are the biggest comic book and sci-fi themed films coming in 2017 to a cinema near you:

The LEGO Batman Movie The lighter side of the Dark Knight as the breakout star of the The LEGO Movie headlines his own film but may adds to the Bat-family to defeat the Joker. The Lego sequel will star the voices of Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Ralph Fiennes and Zach Galianakis. February 10.

Logan Hugh Jackman’s final performance as the X-Man Wolverine.  Patrick Stewart returns as Professor X in an adventure that introduces X-23, Donald Pierce of the Reavers and a new incarnation of the Weapon X Program. James Mangold is back behind the camera for Jackman’s last time bearing the claws. March 3.

Kong: Skull Island GIANT! GORILLA! They had me at giant gorilla. Comic book movie veterans Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson future comic hero Brie Larson star in this origin of the GIANT GORILLA! March 10.

Patient Zero Matt Smith and Natalie Dormer headline this new incarnation on the zombie genre with the story of a man with the ability to speak to the infected searching for the origin and cure for the global pandemic. February 17.

Power Rangers The heroes of a generation hit the big screen. A quintet of teens harness their super powers against alien invaders. With Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa and Bryan Cranston as Zordon. March 24

Ghost in the Shell Scarlett Johansson as the human/cyborg hybrid cop hunting evil hackers based on the beloved Manga creation. March 31

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 The secret of Peter Quill’s parents and new outer space exploits with Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Baby Groot. Kurt Russell as Ego, the Living Planet and Star-Lord’s father! That’s not a spoiler, Marvel already told us. Nathan Fillion as Simon Williams and Mantis join the cosmic cast May 5.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword Guy Ritchie’s take on the legend with Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou. The young Arthur grabs Excalibur and faces his destiny leading a rebellion to unite the lands against a mystical tyrant. May 12.

Wonder Woman The origin of the Amazon warrior revealed. How Diana met Steve Trevor and joined World War I. Gal Gadot, Chris Pine headline the origin of the DC icon and set up Diana’s role in Justice League. June 2

Kingsman: The Golden Circle A new villain attacks forcing the Kingsmen to team up with their American counterparts in this sequel based on Mark Millar’s comic book. Director Matthew Vaughn returns with Julianne Moore, Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum and Elton John listed as appearing in the sequel. June 16.

Spider-Man: Homecoming  Tom Holland is the new Peter Parker in a reboot where Sony and Marvel join forces. Spidey faces high school angst and the Vulture (Michael Keaton) but he’s got Tony Stark as his mentor. July 7.

War for the Planet of the Apes Talking Gorillas! Talking Chimps! Caesar’s apes vs an army of humans led by Woody Harrelson on the third chapter of  the reboot trilogy. July 14

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Director Luc Besson’s (The Fifth Element) new epic based on the French graphic novels with comic book movie vets Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevinge, Clive Owen and Rihanna as a shapeshifting alien. Jul 21.

The Dark Tower Idris Elba is the Gunslinger and Matthew McConaughey is the Man in Black in this film based on the first chapter in Stephen King’s epic. July 28.

Alien: Covenant  Ridley Scott returns with the follow up to Prometheus. Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are back. Colonists discover a paradise that’s really a trap ruled by David, the synthetic survivor of the last expedition. August 4.

It  The killer clown Pennywise is back in a new version of Stephen King’s classic thriller. Seven friends confront the evil that’s haunted them their whole lives. September 8.

Blade Runner 2049 Harrison Ford stars in the follow up to the cult sci-fi classic. Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista are among the cast of the film by Arrival director Denis Villeneuve. October 6.

Thor: Ragnarok Chris Hemsworth is back as the Odinson faces Hela (Cate Blanchett) Skurge (Karl Urban) and Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) but will Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) fight with or against the God of Thunder. November 3.

Justice League Batman and Wonder Woman recruit newly discovered metahumans (Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg) to protect Earth from an alien enemy as director Zack Snyder brings DC Comics greatest super team to the big screen. November 17.

Star Wars: Episode VIII Director Rian Johnson guides the next adventures of Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron and return of Luke Skywalker as the Resistance fights the First Order. December 15.
