The Secret Society Strikes!

We just saw a first look at Vandal Savage and Giganta coming soon in Trinity of Sin: Pandora #2. Mikel Janin designed the members of the Secret Society making their New 52 debut.

Now DC Comics is sharing a further sneak peek inside this issue by checking out some of Daniel Sampere’s stunning interior pages.

These pages show “Pride and Envy (two of the Seven Deadly Sins) scheming, Pandora and her weaponsmith buddy gearing up for battle with the Secret Society, and the beginning of that battle – where she’s going to be facing Vandal Savage, Giganta, and Signalman. But what’s the connection between Pandora and the Secret Society? And why are they so desperate to get their hands on the box?”
“All I will say is that nobody is safe from her,” series writer Ray Fawkes recently said about his protagonist to Cosmic Book News. “She — and, arguably, the whole world — has suffered for millennia thanks to the crime she’s been blamed for, and she thinks she’s found a way to fix everything. The stakes are so high that there’s nobody she won’t consider making use of, if necessary – and there’s nobody she won’t consider wiping out if they get in her way.”

X-Men Gay Wedding Anniversary

Happy One Year Anniversary to Northstar and Kyle Jinadu! It was one year ago the X-Man married Kyle Jinadu in Astonishing X-Men #51. The marriage was heavily promoted, protested and celebrated. Openly gay X-Man Northstar married Kyle Jinadu with the X-Men and Alpha Flight watching in New York’s Central Park. The big event inspired some gay X-men fans to tie the knot…in a comic book store on the day of the wedding issue’s arrival! The wedding of Jean-Paul and Kyle was huge for mainsteam comics but continued the tradition of diversity in the X-Men history.

Jean-Paul and Kyle are still together, still trying to cope with the pressures and dangers of being a super couple targeted by villains. Northstar’s wedding was a major milestone in comic books. Back in the 1980’s John Byrne (Jean-Paul’s creator along with the rest of the Canadian supergroup Alpha Flight) wasn’t allowed Continue reading X-Men Gay Wedding Anniversary

AGE OF HANK PYM!

Age of Ultron #10AI
Age of Ultron #10AI

One of the great elements of Age of Ultron is the focus on Hank Pym. In a world of super soldiers and Gods it’s easy to think of Pym as a minor character. Brian Michael Bendis has reminded us of the Pym’s genius and importance in Marvel history and now Marvel’s immediate future. I wanted to share part of this Bendis interview about the themes of the event.

“One of the themes of the piece is that everybody’s important. Hank Pym would be perceived by some — not all — to be a minor cog in the Marvel Universe. But then you see, if you pull out that minor cog, the whole thing unravels,” Bendis tells Comics Newsarama, “Now he didn’t get to see it, but he certainly gets to feel, “I have an importance here that maybe I’ve been neglecting, and maybe Continue reading AGE OF HANK PYM!

Brian Michael Bendis took a classic Avengers villain to write an epic story that creates new directions for the Marvel Universe. With Age of Ultron #10 out now, I wanted to shared part of this interview in which Bendis talks about his goals for the story and consequences for the Marvel Now:

“I wanted to do two things: I wanted a story that starts in one genre, but then turns into another. I like that mainstream comics are all different sub-genres all going on at once, and I thought two of them clashing into each other would be kind of fantastic,” he tells Comics Newsarama.

“The story starts off: “What if this villain fulfills their promise?” You wake up one day, and it’s happened. Obviously the real-world allegory is you wake up and the terrorists have done something that we’ve heard could happen on the news every day for like 10 years — you wake up, and they’ve done it.

And then at the end, that the heroes, Wolverine in particular, have to go to great lengths to solve this, and the responsibility of using the space-time continuum — which Reed Richards Continue reading Bendis AGE OF ULTRON Aftermath

Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants strikes? Director Bryan Singer shared a new set photo via Twitter from X-Men Days of Future Past. The new photo shows what looks like a political rally with a White House memo referring to an incident in Paris.

“Today we face the gravest threat in our history…

What the world saw in Paris was not an isolated incident.”

The film is based on the classic story involving future and past X-Men trying to stop the assassination of a Senator which leads to a dark future in which mutants are hunted to near extinction.

Superman and Wonder Woman are taking their relationship to the next level! DC Comics announced a brand new Superman/Wonder Woman series by Charles Soule (Swamp Thing) and Tony Daniel (Batman, Action Comics, Detective Comics) coming this October.

Soule tells Comics Newsarama how he sees the two teammates turned lovers:

“I think they’re very similar in a lot of ways, which is partly why they were attracted to each other in the first place, but I also think Superman and Wonder are extremely different.

You know, one grew up in a sort of cloistered society on Paradise Island, where she was trained to be a warrior, and had the gods running around and so-on, so-forth, whereas Superman grew up in Kansas and had to grow into his powers not really knowing who he was and where he came from.
So culturally, I think they’re extraordinarily different people. And the way they approach their own powers and their own identity and their role in the world is very different.

At the same time, I think in the entire DCU, Continue reading Superman/Wonder Will Be Romance and Action
